The Institute of Human Immunology and Genomics of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan was founded on the initiative of Academician Aripov U.A., Academician Petrov R.V. and academician R.M. Khaitov in 1985. It is the only institution of this profile throughout Central Asia and Kazakhstan.

UKTAM ARIPOVICH ARIPOV

(1927–2002) - an outstanding scientist, public figure and health care organizer, a major clinician-surgeon, made a significant contribution to the development of medicine and healthcare, the training of highly qualified personnel for medical universities and research institutes of the republic.

1956-1964 Head of the Department of General Surgery, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of Samarkand State Medical Institute.

1965 – Head of the Department of Faculty Surgery, Faculty of Medicine
1968 – Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences
1971 – Creation of a Problem Research Laboratory to overcome tissue incompatibility during organ and tissue transplantation. Goal: introduction of domestic immunomodulators into practice. Creation of a Kidney Transplant Center.
1972 – The first kidney transplant in Uzbekistan to a patient with chronic renal failure
1974 – Full member of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan
1983 – State Prize named after A. Beruni for work on the study of transplantation immunity, the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases, and the creation of domestic immunosuppressive drugs.
1985 – Creation of the Research Institute of Immunology of the Academy of Sciences of the UzSSR
1990 – Permission from the Ministry of Health to transplant pancreatic islet cells for the treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus
1991 – The Specialized Scientific Center for Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery was organized
1993 – Patent for the use of cells from Astrakhan sheep lambs in the treatment of type 1 diabetes.

RAHIM MUSAEVICH KHAITOV

(1944–2022) - an outstanding scientist, organizer, one of the leading allergists and immunologists in the world, made a significant contribution to the development of fundamental and applied aspects of immunology, immunogenetics and biotechnology.

is an outstanding innovative scientist, the founder of a new direction in medical science, who made a significant contribution to the training of highly qualified personnel, to the teaching and promotion of immunology in Russia and the CIS.

Laureate of the State Prizes of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology in 2001 (for the work “Conjugated polymer-subunit immunogens and vaccines”) and 2011 (for outstanding achievements in the scientific and practical development of domestic immunology), the 1996 Russian Government Prize in the field science and technology (for the development, introduction into industrial production and clinical practice of a new type of immunocorrective drugs of peptide nature: tactivin and myelopid). Among his awards is the A.A. Bogomolets Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR (1979), gold medal and Mechnikov Prize of the USSR Academy of Sciences, Demidov Prize (2000), etc.
Foreign member of the Washington Academy of Sciences (1993), Norwegian Academy of Sciences (1999). In 1986 he was admitted to the Union of Writers of the USSR.
