Institute of Immunology and Human Genomics

The Institute of Immunology and Human Genomics of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan has the status of the only research institution in Central Asia that trains highly qualified scientific personnel and carries out a wide range of fundamental and applied research in the field of immunology, allergology and human genomics.

The Institute began its activities in 1985 as a branch of the Institute of Immunology of the USSR Ministry of Health on the initiative of academicians U.A. Aripov, R.V. Petrov and R.M. Khaitov. The Institute changed its official names over the years: Institute of Immunology of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan; Republican Scientific Center for Immunology of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan. In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated July 05, 2018 No. PP-3838 “On additional measures for the development of fundamental and applied research, as well as innovative work in the field of immunology and human genomics”, the Republican Scientific Center for Immunology was renamed the Institute Immunology and Human Genomics and transferred to the management of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The Decree defines the main tasks and priority areas of the Institute’s activities:

    • implementation of comprehensive research interconnected with global advances in biomedicine, ensuring the development of a wide range of immunogenomic technologies;
    • study and formulation of new ideas about the commonality and differences of systemic immunological, genomic and cellular-molecular mechanisms of the formation of autoimmune-inflammatory processes in oncological, autoimmune and metabolic pathologies;
    • using the achievements of systemic immunology and genomics to develop new pharmaceutical technologies in order to study immunotropic drugs from local raw materials;
    • creation of an analytical and technological basis for the development of new immunobiogenetic import-substituting products for the diagnosis and treatment of multifactorial (combined) diseases in accordance with international requirements;
    • improving the forms of integration of science and education in order to train young highly qualified specialists and highly qualified scientific and pedagogical personnel in the field of immunology, medical genetics and related areas;
    • development of new programs and methods that contribute to the development of innovative scientific research, methodological support of the educational process, as well as ensuring the active participation of the Institute’s research staff in the educational process of specialized higher educational institutions.
